A green pedestrian space linking the siteUonotana-sujiThe owners of buildings along the Uonotanasuji route in centralOsaka each planted Japanese cinnamon trees in the sidewalk spaceafforded by the setback of their wall lines, creating a continuing tree-lined avenue with pleasant sidewalks for pedestrians. This kind of urban development, based on mutual understandingamong neighboring landowners, begins from individual building sitesand links along the road, spreading on in planes to intersecting roads.Bringing greenery back into cities means more than just improving theurban scenery. It provides the people working in the surroundingoffices with shade, creating a pleasant environment for them to strollin. As such efforts spread, they also lead to action against the urbanheat island effect. The front of each building has been drawn back to provide green space for pedestrians. The intersecting streets spread out in a network of foliage. The trees and their shade create a psychologically soothing andpleasantly cool environment.1986年、「魚の棚筋」というい1本の通りから始まった近隣地権者連携の緑の環境づくりは、交差する通りにも面的に広がっている。The project to create a green urban environment, which began along oneroad, Uonotana-suji, in 1986, has spread onto intersecting streets.
