構造デザインの最前線 FACT NIKKEN SEKKEI03Today there is a much greater interest in reliable structural design than at any previous time in our experience. However, the importance of structure is hardly new in Japan—a nation in which earthquakes frequently occur. The role of the structural designer starts in the architectural planning stage, when ongoing discussions take place with the client about the performance of the intended building. Then, the designer formulates a design policy and conducts basic planning based on a variety of investigations. Drawings and calculation sheets are prepared for schematic design and design devel-opment. The designer visits the construction site and contributes to the ongoing maintenance of the building, even after its completion. Thus, the structural designer is involved in many aspects of the architectural process. In this volume, we introduce a variety of buildings to help you better understand the scope and scale of our assign-ments. Each of the following cases provides examples of the importance of the policy, philosophy, expertise, and original-ity that must be demonstrated by the individual structural designer.
