The plan shifts from the economy-centered thrust of previous urban development to strategies for cities focused on the well-being of the country’s population of nearly 1.4 billion people. Nikken Group’s own ideas for town planning, drawn from the lessons learned over more than a century of Japan’s experiences including rapid economic growth and economic stagnation, are aimed at precisely the human-centered city.
