子どもの感受性を刺激する空間旧園舎は、不適切な維持管理が各部スギ材に不具合を起こしていました。設計過程で、木材の質感や香りが子どもの五感を刺激し、成育に寄与することをクライアントと共有し、徳島県内で確保できる良質なスギ材を適所に用いた木混構造・木質の園舎として計画を進めました。　回遊性のある共用部は、天井高さを抑えたコンクリート化粧打ち放し、保育室内部は、さまざまな屋根架構をもつ木造が相互嵌入し、天井高さや触感・光の反射・音の響きの変化が、子どもの感受性を刺激する空間構成としています。また、木造の架構形状を活かした斜面空間や園児の成長に応じたスケールの場など、子どもたちの遊び場と木造表現が相まって、一体的に楽しめる成育空間を目指しました。Spaces to Foster Children’s SensibilitiesThe client was concerned about the use of wood because of the damage caused to the cedar siding on the exterior of the previous building due to inappropriate maintenance. In the course of the design work, we confirmed the ways the texture and aroma of wood stimulates children’s senses and contributes to their growth and decided on a structure mixing use of good-quality cedar wood obtainable locally in Tokushima prefecture with reinforced concrete. The rambling common-use area is of fair-faced concrete and of moderate height. In the interiors of the day care rooms the interplay of different wooden roof structures and the diversity of ceiling heights, textures, reflections of light, and acoustic effects offer spaces that nurture children’s nascent sensibilities.
