Photography｜Portrait: 増田智泰／Tomoyasu Masudaこのプロジェクトはイノベーションを生み出す先行デザイン研究の拠点として構想されました。NADはアクティビティデザインを担当し、クライアントとの共創の結果、セキュリティラインのない「立体的なワンルーム」が実現しました。クライアント側で計画を推進した長屋氏にお話を伺いました。─オープンなコミュニケーション空間の実現この建物の設計を日建設計へ依頼したときに、働き方改革を提案する部署があると聞き、そんなこともできるなら、とNADとの協働が始まりました。社員の1日の行動パターン記録や、部門横断でのワークショップなど、彼らの取り組み方はユニークでした。　その一方で、同じデザイナーとして「デザインは尖ってないといけない」と伝えました。クリエイターの仕事は「明日をつくる」ことです。将来を切り拓いていくような要素は非常に重要だと思っていますのでそう伝えたのです。結果、吹き抜けのサイズを当初の4倍にして、上下のフロアをつないだ「ダンスフロア」というアイデアが実現しました。　これが非常にいいと思ったのは、オープンにコミュニケーションできることです。ほとんどのミス・失敗の原因は人為的なコミュニケーションの問題ですから、コミュニケーションの向上は当初から重要と考えていました。研究開発施設ではオープンにすると同時にセキュリティの問題がもち上がりますが、機密を管理することとオープンな場所をつくることは、本来別な話だと思っています。本当に盗る気のある相手にはどんなバリアも通用しません。むしろ、情報流出を誘発させないような、豊かな気持ちになる環境づくりが大事です。そこで「ダンスフロア」のアイデアが出たときに、これはいい方向だと思って「渡りに船」と乗っかりました。　実際に建物を使い出すと、3日目にはもう「仕事のパターンが変わった」という声が聞かれました。複数の者からそういう話を聞いたのが非常に印象深かったです。そして、明らかにみんなオープンマインドThis project was designed for the center of leading design research which creates innovation. A three-dimensionally integrated single space without any security lines was designed as a joint creation between the client and Nikken Sekkei’s NAD, which was in charge of activity design. We interviewed Mr. Akihiro Nagaya, who led the project in Yamaha Motor Co.─Creating an Open Communication Space The collaboration with NAD was started when we requested Nikken Sekkei to design this building and found out that there is a section which deals with work style innovation. The NAD approach was unique; they would record the daily activ-ity patterns of employees and hold workshops with people from different departments. While working with them, I said, as a designer myself, the design must be sharp and keen. Because creating tomorrow is what creators do, and I think the factors for cultivating the future are very important. As a result, we created the idea of the “Dance Floor,” making the atrium four times bigger than it had been and connecting two floors vertically. What’s really good about this idea is that it makes open communication possible. Improving communication was critical since most mistakes and errors are caused by human communication problems. Security is always an issue for R&D facilities, but I believe managing secrecy and creating open spaces are two entirely different issues. Nothing is enough for those who are really committed to burglary. What is important is to create environments that enrich people’s minds and eliminate the temptation to leak information. So when I heard about the idea of the Dance Floor, I was happy to be on board with it. I heard people say that their work patterns changed only three days after we moved into the building.
