The new station responds by more than doubling the number of lines and platforms and to accommodate this increase, proposes a shift from horizontal circulation to vertical circulation based on technical verification studies. Smooth and pleasant transfer connections are facilitated between all available transportation modes including rail, passenger car, local and long distance buses and taxis. The road system around the station was reorganized and a road traffic system that includes bicycles and other means for slow mobility was planned. Plazas created on the south and north sides of the station form new landmarks for Guangzhou. The South Plaza pre-serves a portion of the existing station exterior wall as a sym-bol of the old Guangzhou Station incorporating elements of local culture, representing the “Living Room” of the city.
