[ファシリテーター:中谷憲一郎]While new technologies flood into our daily lives, it has not been easy to leverage 5G telecommunications, the Internet of things, and other benefits for architecture. Nikken Sekkei has struggled to come to terms with the vague notions of “smart building” and “smart city.” As we grappled with the issues, we realized that in addition to establishing the advantages of various technologies individually, the most important and appropriate approach as a design firm is a holistic one that constructs and demonstrates the possibilities of how people might live with digital technology. We needed to define concepts that integrate various technologies. At this forum our video showed the possible effects of digital technology on the workplace and the way we work, and demonstrates our concept for reduction of building maintenance. During our study, we received help not only from within Nikken Sekkei, but from Softbank, building maintenance companies and manufacturers, and many others; this experience made us recognize the importance of cooperation and open networks. In the future, we hope to build a conceptual model of smart cities using a larger framework, and continue to play a pioneering role in the field by bringing smart cities to life. [Facilitator: Kenichiro Nakatani]The eyes of the world are on Japan as the country looks for solutions to the serious labor shortages accompanying our rap-idly aging society. Cross-industry and cross-business efforts to create smart cities are needed throughout the country.─Utilizing Real-Time City Data: Hangzhou In Hangzhou, China, centralized management of informa-tion to provide inter-disciplinary solutions to urban issues is already in practice. For example, the city improved traffic congestion and reduced emergency vehicle travel time by 50 percent by collecting traffic data and optimizing traffic light controls. Connecting social infrastructure and sensors on buildings enabled information sharing in real-time that helps provide quick and safe firefighting and rescue. The tech company Alibaba Group plays a major role as the provider of the information platform. Alibaba offers munici-palities a menu of smart city functions that each can custom-ize for their specific needs.─Co-creating Smart CitiesSoftbank is collaborating with various industries and local governments to establish smart-city functions in urban areas and sparsely populated areas. Monet Technologies Inc. was created jointly with Toyota Motor Corporation in 2018 to provide transport solutions for depopulated areas. A mobile medical exam vehicle was tested for the municipality of Ina, Nagano prefecture. Many local governments have signed ongoing partnership agreements to engage in these projects. Development of smart-city functions in metropolitan areas include that in the Takeshiba district of Tokyo, where Softbank plans to relocate its head office in the fall of 2020. By providing IoT platforms utilizing data generated by the community to a variety of service providers, we aim to create towns that are convenient and efficient to work or live in or to visit. Examples are a system that notifies users about alterna-tive means of transportation when trains are delayed or con-nects them to MaaS (Mobility as a Service), and systems that send personalized digital ads to visitors.─Essence of a Smart CityA smart city isn’t just about instant information access and convenience. People are at the core of any city, and the essence of the smart city is whether it can provide people with a high happiness quotient. What creates happiness? In Scandinavia, which ranks high in world happiness rankings, it is high-quality social services. In Fukui prefecture, which boasts the top happiness rating in Japan, many people live in large, multi-generational families. Reliable social services and supportive family environments are important factors in happiness. Creating entities individ-uals or industries can count on locally is important. Softbank aims to serve as a communicator of information to connect people with people and businesses with businesses.図左:モネ・テクノロジーズが長野県伊那市で実施した、医師による診察を遠隔で受けられる移動診察車の実証実験。(2019年12月–2020年3月)Figure on le: In the city of Ina in Nagano prefecture, Monet Technologies conducted demonstration tests of mobile medical exam vehicles that provide online medical examinations.
