We at Nikken Sekkei are striving to design appealing cities which attract people and promote social interaction, innovation and progress.Our designs focus on providing solutions that understand how people interact with public space and buildings in their daily lives and add value to that experience; we believe that attractive open spaces, livable streets and urban amenities can create superior urban environments where people choose to meet, live, work and play.Japan’s cities have always placed value, both historically and culturally, on human scale and sensitivity and stressed the importance of communication between people. Tokyo and Osaka have evolved as role models of successful urban metropolitan areas, with their integrated greenery and public spaces within their compact, mixed-use and often high-density neighborhoods. In contributing to Japan’s urban model of mixing residential and commercial uses, we are keenly aware that this not only reduces vehicular trafc and energy consumption, it also creates time and opportunities for people; time to participate in activities which evolve into new lifestyles, time to communicate, and opportunities for new, innovative ideas and the spawning of new industry.Envisioning and pursuing the design of vibrant neighborhoods, we seek to create urban spaces of opportunity, where value is created and life can evolve from generation to generation.
