NIKKEN SEKKEI URBANISM
61/136

Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism has the objective to promote sustainable urban development in Asia’s emerging markets.Three companies from the Nikken Group - Nikken Sekkei, Nikken Sekkei Civil Engineering and Nikken Sekkei Research Institute - are members of the consortium. In July 2014 the consortium was institutionalized as a General Incorporated Association., Collaboration with the newly established Japan Overseas Infrastructure Investment Corporation for Transport and Urban Development (JOIN) is also serving to further streamline negotiations with overseas governments. JOIN provides both monetary support and the dispatch of experts for urban and transportation projects in emerging markets. To date, memorandums have been signed with several cities and developers including the cities of Wenzhou, Dongying and Zhangjiagang in China with the objective to support development planning. In Vietnam’s Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, feasibility studies have been carried out to estimate the potentials of implementing TOD strategies. OutlookNikken Sekkei as an independent consulting firm providing planning, architecture and engineering services, sits in a very neutral position within the PPP process. As urbanists, we always search for urban concepts and designs that nd the optimum balance of commercial gain and benet to the public good, and understanding the greater circumstances and linkages provides us with the expertise required to provide consulting services within the elds of PPP to streamline the delivery of solutions that maximize the benets to all stakeholders. Indeed Nikken Sekkei has played inuential roles in most of theaforementioned pivotal examples.Promoting the coordination between public and private interests often requires sensible coordination and consultation. Our project experience shows that pro-active management can help to not only focus efforts on ensuring both the public and private sides can benet from partnerships, but also help to keep the focus on original objectives including the city and its citizens.UPSTREAMConcept and Planning StageProject InitiationMaster Plan DevelopmentInfrastructureDesignInfrastructureConstructionOverseas Urban Development ChallengesIntergovernmental FrameworkCollaboration with JOIN, JICA, etc.Planning & DesignUtilities & SystemsConstructionReal EstateEnergyFinancingPlatformProject TeamReal Estate Business Development(Housing, Office, Facilities)Urban Management(Infrastructure, Real Estate)DOWNSTREAMOperation & Management StageBen ThanhCentral StationBen Thanh MarketUMRT Line 2UMRT Line 4UMRT Line 1Opera House StationUMRT Line 3aUndergroundBus TerminalUndergroundBus TerminalHo Chi Minh City Ben Thanh Station District General Development Feasibility Study, Vietnam 2011-2013(NSC)Funding Planning and Analysis, Business Scheme Feasibility Study - feasibility study on the development of complex facilities in Ben Thanh Station Area, along with other railroad stations, station squares and commercial facilities.
