Singapore Delegation Visits Nikken HQ, Miyashita Park and Tokyo Station Yaesu Development

(TOKYO) -- A delegation from Singapore’s Housing & Development Board (HDB) visited Nikken Sekkei’s Tokyo headquarters on October 8 and toured a pair of the company’s marquee projects in the nation’s capital.
First off, the group was treated to a presentation entitled “Urban Renewal and Public Realm Transformation” by Nikken Principal and Senior Executive Officer Wataru Tanaka at the Nikken head office in Iidabashi. The presentation highlighted some of the company’s award-winning projects, such as Tokyo Station Yaesu Development, Miyashita Park, and Kumamoto Sakuramachi Project. It also stressed Nikken’s commitment to contextualized urban renewal and public realm transformation and the related national policy initiatives that facilitate them. The talk was followed by a tour of Miyashita Park and Tokyo Station Yaesu Development, led by Associate Damian Patience.

Developed through a Public Private Partnership (PPP), the Miyashita Park revitalization project transformed a dilapidated facility built in the 1960s in Tokyo’s trendy Shibuya ward. The multilevel rooftop park complex features improved park access, public parking, four levels of retail shops, and an 18-story hotel, significantly enhancing urban space and optimizing public land use.

Tokyo Station Yaesu Development showcases a modern, forward-looking “gateway” design with sweeping, unmistakable external canopy. It includes two high-rise towers, shopping areas, pedestrian decks with expansive roofs, and a station plaza that incorporates seasonal greenery.
