Cross section The hemispherical substructure was designed to avoid interrupting the flow of groundwater.18Linking and unifying the interior of the sitewith the surrounding woods and thevegetation of the "satoyama" cultivatedhillsides improves the local environmentaltopography and builds the strength andvitality of its trees.Wind paths can be created by protecting theexisting environment, improving theenvironment with new tree planting, andlinking with nature over a broader area.A building for beauty, surrounded by beautiful forestPola Museum of ArtIn planning this art museum, we carried out a ten-year project on the theme of howto protect and coexist with the surrounding natural environment. First we spent one yearon a detailed survey of the flora and fauna on the site. We avoided the valley and placedthe building in an inconspicuous position. Above all, the position allowed conservation ofall the beech trees. The substructure of the museum, which has the majority of its bulkbelow ground, is hemispherical, for the greatest resistance to water pressure. It alsoavoids interrupting the flow of local aquifers. Impact on the surrounding forest is mitigatedby using water sprays to cool air conditioning outlet air and water sprinklers to reduceradiant heat from the roof.Only indigenous local plants were planted on the site, to avoid bringing in outsidestrains. Cypress trees that had been planted on the site were felled and seeds gatheredon the site were grown into saplings and planted, in an attempt to restore the forest to itsunderlying vegetation types. The saplings included a variety of beech that only yieldsseeds once in seven years. The outer walls used PC concrete panels with natural texturesfor the outside walls, and natural stone to cover the low roofs. The caffe at the time of theatrium space frames the view in a large window, so the occupants can feel that they aresurrounded by a beautiful forest that changes its appearance from moment to moment.Ken Kannari調調PC /2006 FACTNIKKEN SEKKEITown/ Blending into nature
