1more than 2 into 1 ─第3ターミナルハリウッドスターがユニクロを着る理由は決して「安いから」ではありません。「スタイル」の一つとしてそれを選択できる、自らの確かな価値観をもっているからです。　成田国際空港第3ターミナルは、航空業界の新しい潮流であるLCCの入居を想定し計画されたターミナルです。「ローコスト」の徹底的な追求を前提としたこのターミナルは、80年代から変わることの無かった従来型の空港建築を乗り越えるために、新しい価値観を提起する必要がありました。　削ぎ落とすだけの退屈なローコスト建築を打開するために、2つ以上の機能を1つのものに集約していくことを考えました。空港機能で最も重要な「旅客の誘導」を主題とし、従来はバラバラに計画されてきたサイン、設備、構造、空間を統合的にデザインしています。結果として、サインや照明を纏った「設備梁」や、旅客誘導のための「トラック」がエキサイティングな空港ターミナルをつくり出しました。Getting More than 2 into 1: Terminal 3The reason Hollywood stars wear Uniqlo apparel is not because it is cheap, but because it is their style of choice, and such people have firmly established values regarding style.Narita’s Terminal 3 is designed and planned to accommodate the new trend of low-cost-carrier travel. To design a terminal that is thoroughly low-cost, we needed to come up with a new set of values that would move beyond the conventional airport architecture that has remained much the same since the 1980s.Instead of the strategy of cutting back and cutting out in order to curtail costs, the design features convergence—whenever possible making things that can function two or more ways instead of just one. A primary issue in the functioning of an airport is passenger wayfinding guidance and signage, and the design treats signage, equipment, structure, and space in an integrated fashion, rather than planning each of these separately. This led to the development of building equipment covered with signs and lighting fixtures and the athletic-field-like track guiding passengers to their destination, airport terminal innovations that heighten the excitement of travel.Feature | Legacy and Development Over 115 Years262015 Autumn 24WORKS
