研究開発チームとしてのNADNADはラボを名乗っているとおり、研究開発チームの側面も持ち合わせています。社会のイノベーションにつながるノウハウの研究を、大学や企業の研究機関と合同で行っています。企業イノベーション、ワークスタイル、ワークプレイス、コミュニケーション、都市ブランディング、モビリティデザイン、キッズ・ライフスタイルなど、さまざまなアクティビティを研究テーマとしています。研究にあたっては、ときとして自らの行動そのものも実験対象となります。家具のモックアップ(試作品)をオフィスに持ち込むなど、試行錯誤を行いながら働き方そのものをデザインアイディアの源泉としています。 また、ラボの空間は日建設計のFuture Centerとしての役割も担っています。Future Center Alliance Japan(FCAJ)の一員として、イノベーションに向けたさまざまな協働や取り組み、社内外のメンバーとのFuture Centerセッションを行っています。これらを通じて新たな知見やデザインアイディアを創出する場として、NADのみならず、日建設計の多種多様なプロジェクトに活用されています。NAD as R&D TeamThe NAD has the character of an R&D team. Research into know-how linked to innovations in society is carried out jointly with universities and corporate research institutes. Activity-related research includes such themes as corporate innovation, work styles, the work place, communication, urban branding, mobility design, and kid’s lifestyles. Sometimes our very own activities become the subject of our research. Grappling with projects using trial and error and hands-on study, we devise working methods that help spawn good design ideas.The actual space of the lab plays the role of Nikken Sekkei’s “Future Center.” As a member of the Future Center Alliance Japan (FCAJ), we undertake a variety of innovation-oriented collaborations and hold Future Center sessions with members in and outside the company. The new knowledge and design ideas that accrue through these initiatives come into play not only in the NAD but in many different kinds of Nikken Sekkei projects.really needed) to happen, fresh inspiration that derives from contact with the knowledge and expertise of various people is needed. What is needed is for participants to develop insights sparked by the knowledge that comes out when in contact with others, and then to convert that insight into new value. Toward that end, the basic approach consists of insight through input from the user perspective and repeated checking and study of new output. It pursues designs by accelerating movement through the four stages (input, insight, prototype, output). In that process it can achieve thoroughgoing dialogue not only with management but all sorts of people involved. Target Range of Activity Design and Design ProcessBecause activities emerge from multifaceted elements, the NAD organizes project teams involving liaison with all sorts of outside experts. The target spheres of “activity design” built up through the collaboration of experts from various fields extend to space, products, services, work styles, events, and so forth. Its output is likewise diverse, including architectural design, corporate or city branding, product design, and tools for service-communication design, and is designed flexibly, adapting to newly created value.However, just because people get together and engage in dialogue, that does not mean they will always come up with some innovative idea.
