Support was received for the facility from the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry, and Fisheries Forestry Agency because it is constructed with local cedar timber grown in Saitamas Chichibu mountains and makes its playground open to the community. A sequence of stacked 120-mm square, screw-laminated timbers supports the deep, shade-providing eaves. The vigorous use of cedar employed everywhere possible for the exterior walls and interior finishing resulted in a building of great warmth and character. The timber making up the complex structure of the building was processed and assembled utilizing 3D precut technology as well as by hand to assure precision. Foreign visitors to the company are often impressed by the fine example of Japanese craftsmanship on display in the building. 194m2 使 Client Tamron Co., Ltd.Total floor area 194m2 Structure Wood and reinforced concreteTimber Ceder (Chichibu-grown, Saitama Prefecture)Company Day Care Open to the Community2015Tamron KidsMinuma-ku, Saitama2015 Hirotaka Imaeda / Daisuke KadonoEngineering Department, Nikken SekkeiFumie Iwanaga / Shumpei Nitatori / Sotaro YokoyamaArchitectural Design Department, Nikken Sekkei182016 Summer 27WORKSFeature | Pushing the Possibilities for Architecture in Wood
