Section姿西The purpose of a credit bank is to back up the development of local society, so through this project we sought to use architectural design to make a statement about the companys close involvement in its region. The first manifestation of that statement are the vertical fins of Tenryu cypress, for which the region is well known, that extend the entire length of the buildings generously long facade. The effect is quite extraordinary. The fins are directly fitted with glass to form window sashes that perform well in shutting out heat. They also serve comparatively better than standard sashes in shielding the building from the rays of the western sun. In addition, the spacing of the fins is such that their narrow pitch adds another layer of security, inhibiting the possibility for break-ins and eliminating the necessity for unsightly shutters. Light inside, filtering through the fins along with exterior illumination, brightens up the surrounding streets after hours. Inside the building, too, the aroma and soft quality of Japanese cypress enhance the comfort of the waiting room space. 1,895m2 使 Client Hamamatsu Shinkin BankTotal floor area 1,895m2Structure Reinforced concrete and steelTimber Japanese cypress (Tenryu cypress)Tenryu Cypress Latticework Evokes Its Locale 2015Hamamatsu Shinkin Bank Mikatahara BranchKita-ku, Hamamatsu2015 Tetsuya Shiota / Aya Maniwa / Keiji YoshimotoArchitectural Design Department, Nikken SekkeiCurrently at Nikken Sekkei Construction Management262016 Summer 27WORKSFeature | Pushing the Possibilities for Architecture in Wood
