This building serves as a model for facilities in the ward, using many varieties of wood for all sorts of purposes in large volume—some 130 cubic meters of wood of some 10 varieties in all. The plan for use of wood in the building has received high praise and set the standard for volume of wood usage in the ward’s public buildings. Wood is used mostly for parts of the building with which people will have skin contact. Explanatory plates identifying the variety of wood used have been attached here and there in the hope that people will feel closer to the materials used. This is a public facility where they can see firsthand nature’s cycle of germination and growth, human use of resources, and their return to the earth. It is a building for the children of Toyosu to grow up with.1：木製ルーバーに包まれた屋上テラスは、階段状に5層にわたり、緑陰読書の外部空間等をつくり出す。｜2：3階出張所。カウンターや壁面収納に木材を全面的に使用。｜3：外装を支持する木製方立。屋上の木製ルーバーと同じ形状とピッチとし、建物全体を木材の籠で包む。｜4：10階図書館のキッズコーナー。さまざまな高さの書架と床でつくり、子供が楽しみながら本に触れることができる。｜5：外構舗装の三和土が内部空間までつながり、内外が土で連続する。1: The roof terrace provides outdoor space for reading in the shade of the trees.｜2: The third-floor ward branch office features abundant use of wood.｜3: Wooden mullions that support the exterior.
