Glass was used in the partitions on the third floor ward to reas-sure patients that they are being watched over by the staff. Changes in the color of the indirect lighting in the hallways impart a sense of the movement of time. For the fourth floor where “unit care” is provided for groups in a home-like setting, the plan incorporates living and dining areas sep-arated by wood partitions. A great deal of thought went into the eighteen courtyards and terraces of various sizes, creating “liv-ing spaces” with greenery and a sense of the outside townscape.
