In consideration of the beluga whales’ sensitivity to sound and vibration, the construction was performed at the time the waterproofing of the beluga tank was updated.21Photography｜1–3: SATOH PHOTO｜4: 西日本写房広島／Nishinihon Shaboh Hiroshima3プールと一体となったグランブルーの世界2017年度には、水族館のシンボルともいえるシロイルカの水槽と観覧席のバリューアップを含む長寿命化工事を行いました。地方の魅力アップを目的とした地方創生拠点整備交付金を活用しています。観覧席は「シロイルカと同じ海の中にいるような空間」をコンセプトとし、氷を想起させる照明を組み込んだアクリルベンチ、波のようにうねるルーバー天井で構成し、観客を包み込む計画としました。また、放射状のルーバーは観客の視線をプールに向けさせ、折上げ天井として後部の天井高を最大化するとともに立見席を設置し、超繁忙日における観客の満足度向上を図りました。あわせて、空調熱源の改修による省エネルギー化を行い、環境性能の向上を図りました。Big Blue World United with the PoolIn FY 2017, Nikken Sekkei undertook life-extension construc-tion, including value enhancement of the beluga whale tank and bleachers, the Aquarium’s symbol facility. The project benefitted from a Regional Revitalization Venue Development Grant, devised to improve the appeal of local communities. Following a concept of space intended to simulate being “in the ocean with beluga whales,” the acrylic benches are made to look like icebergs with built-in illumination; wavy louvers in the ceiling create an audience-enveloping undersea effect. The undulating louvers follow a radial pattern on the coved ceiling, directing the line of sight towards the pool, while the ceiling height was maximized at the back of the benches to accommodate standing room and improve customer satisfac-tion on extra busy days.
