To update seismic performance and remedy physical deterioration after 50 years, renovations were performed to accommodate use for another 40-plus years. Building services were updated, and the origi-nal design was preserved while refurbishing the exterior with prefectural cypress (hiba) panels for a building the people of Aomori Prefecture can always be proud of.21 : 改修後の外観。2 : 改修前の外装。3 : 敷地内の林檎園から外装を見る。1 : Exterior aer renovation.2 : Exterior before renovation. 3 : View of exterior nish from the apple orchard on the grounds.Exterior in Hiba Savors Pleasures of VarietyThe distinctive facade that uses wood of the prefectural cypress (hiba) on the walls over and under the windows honors the original design and projects the regional identity that is the theme of the project. Approximately 40 percent of the wood used on the facade was reclaimed from timbers removed as the result of specific ceiling-measure and interi-or fireproofing work in the entrance hall and assembly hall. New wood was added and a random pattern developed with two colors of hiba̶new and old̶using a table of random numbers. The colors of the wood will continue to change, adding interest to the building’s appearance over time. 変化を楽しむヒバの外装窓の上下の壁に県木のヒバ材を用いる特徴的な外装は、旧庁舎のメモリアルであると同時に、地域性を表す本計画のテーマです。この外装ヒバ材の40％程度は、玄関および議場から特定天井対策・内装不燃化の理由で撤去した既存材を再利用しています。不足分は新規材を追加し、新旧2色のヒバ材を、乱数表をベースにランダムなパターンで張り分けました。今後も経年による木の色合いの変化が楽しめる建物となっています。062019 AUTUMN40Feature | WORKS
