豊田市では、まち中心部のにぎわい創出のため、公共空間の活用「つかう」と再整備「つくる」を市民参加で進めています。日建設計シビルは計画の初期から、市民参加のプラットフォームづくりや、全体デザイン監修、空間設計などに携わってきました。市民の自由な活動を受け入れる「新とよパーク」や、公共空間活用のプレイヤーを育成するイベント広場「とよしば」、中心部と豊田スタジアムをつなぐかわまちづくり*1の一環である矢作川沿いの「白浜公園」などが相次いで竣工しました。地場材の屋外用可動式什器「アーバンファニチャー」も手掛けており、今後はこれらの相乗効果による、多様なアクティビティの醸成が期待されます。（写真は上から「新とよパーク」、「とよしば」、「白浜公園」、「アーバンファニチャー」）The city of Toyota has been promoting cit-izen participation in public-space use and redevelopment to enliven activity in the city center. Nikken Sekkei Civil Engineering has been involved from the initial phase, creating the citizen-participation platform, supervising the overall design, and plan-ning the public-space layout. “Shin-Toyo Park,” where citizens can freely engage in activities; “Toyoshiba” an outdoor public event area; and “Shirahama Park,” locat-ed along the Yahagi River as a part of the “Kawamachi-zukuri”*1 urban development plan to link Toyota Stadium and the city center using riverfront spaces, have all been completed. We have also developed the Urban Furniture line of products, which are moveable outdoor amenities made from locally sourced materials. It is anticipated that the synergy of these efforts will infuse new life into the area.
