The site, on land once within the second enclosure (ninomaru) of Takatsuki Castle, will become a recreation hub surrounded by greenery and castle-town ambience. The various-sized halls and studios are designed to support a wide range of local arts activities and serve as the center of an array of cultural projects and events including con-certs, theatrical productions, and dance performances.持続可能な木材利用このホールの特徴的なデザインは、公園の木立に溶け込むように、内外装に張り巡らせた木ルーバーです。木材をふんだんに使用した本計画を進めるにあたって、地元の森林組合の協力を得ながら「山にとって持続可能な木材利用とは何か？」をヒアリングし、山と呼応する木材利用を目指しました。 その結果、木材調達をする際には、森林のサイクルや設計当時に猛威を振るった大型台風による被害状況を十分に配慮した、適切な伐採量と調達先の見極めが必要とされました。 そうして集められた大切な木材を、効果的かつ無駄のないように利用すべく、部材の寸法や丸太から切り出した木材の使用箇所など、各分野の専門家とともに検討を重ねました。Using Wood SustainablyThe design of the building is notable for the wooden louvers that envelop both its exterior and interiors surfaces, making it appear to blend in with the surrounding trees. In conceiving the wood-centered design, we consulted with the local forest cooperative about how to use local timber sustainably and in a way that preserves the ecological balance of the forests. It was necessary, therefore, to identify the appropriate amount of logging and the optimal timber suppliers, with due consideration to the cycle of the local woodlands and the heavy damage caused to local forests by a typhoon that had swept through the area at the time of designing.
