1208緑豊かな公園と建築でつなぐ姫路市は、広域圏の中核都市にふさわしい賑わいとうるおいにあふれた交流拠点の形成のため、姫路駅周辺を北駅前広場を中心とするエントランスゾーン、その東に位置するコアゾーンとイベントゾーンの3つのエリアに区分し、整備事業を進めてきました。イベントゾーンに位置する本施設は、播磨圏域の文化芸術と産業の拠点であり、その魅力を発信する場として、他のゾーンと連携を図りながら敷地西側に広がる公園と一体的に整備されました。　公園内の園路は屋根付きとし、駅から雨に濡れることなく本施設までアクセス可能です。園路脇には姫路にゆかりのある花々や樹木、水景やベンチなどの滞留スペースを配し、季節ごとの風景を楽しみながら2階共用ロビーへと導きます。建物を東西に貫くこのロビーからは、大・中・小3つのホールへ直接アクセスできるだけでなく、県立病院へと通り抜けが可能で、トップライトからの光を受けた煉瓦の大壁面は、表情豊かな陰影を生み出します。また、ロビーからは、展示場、スタジオがガラス越しに見え、通り抜けながら市民活動を感じられる、セレンディピティを誘発する仕掛けをしつらえました。Connection through the Architecture and a Verdant ParkThe city of Himeji has endeavored to make the area around its main train station a lively and pleasant gathering place to serve the broad metropolitan area of this medium-sized city. The Himeji Station area was divided into three zones: an entrance zone centered around the North exit plaza and to the east, a core zone and event zone. Arcrea Himeji is located in the event zone and is a cultural arts and industry hub for the local Harima area. Its integration with the park on the site’s west side and its links to the other zones are aimed to enhance its attraction. The covered walkway along the park runs from the station to the Center, providing protection from rain. Flowers and trees with “Himeji” associations line the walkway, and bench-es and waterscapes allow visitors to enjoy seasonal scenery on their way to the Center’s second-floor lobby. The lobby, which runs through the building east to west, offers direct access to the small, medium, and grand halls as well as passage to the adjacent prefectural hospital. Top lighting casts nuanced shadows over the lobby’s large brick wall. The lobby overlooks the exhibition hall and studios through glass windows allow-ing glimpses of the local activities underway below.
