1 : The tea house at Urakuen garden.2022年7月22日 有楽苑にて。July 22, 2022, at Urakuen.Urakuen garden and the Museum Meiji-mura. What motivated the company to involve itself in such efforts to contribute to society?Michio Mase (Mase) During the postwar period of rapid econom-ic growth, buildings from the Meiji period (1868–1912) were being torn down one after another. Architect Yoshiro Taniguchi (1904–1979) grew alarmed at the loss of these buildings and his concern was shared by then president of Nagoya Railroad, a friend and fellow university classmate. It’s important to us as a company to be active in cultural activities that give something back to the local area, and the preservation of cultural assets like Urakuen and the Museum Meiji-mura is certainly part of that endeavor.Nomura Thanks to the Museum Meiji-mura, we can still appre-ciate historical architecture from the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. And in the case of Urakuen, there is additional value in that it allows us to appreciate the building style of modern architects like Sutemi Horiguchi and Masao Nakamura, who are known for their work on tea houses. Nagoya Railroad Co. is also involved in the promotion of the arts of tea (chanoyu).Mase I have long served in the Aichi Prefecture branch of the Omotesenke school of tea. The Aichi region has a large num-ber of tea-ceremony practitioners; in fact, the Aichi branch of Omotesenke has the second-largest nationwide.Nishizawa Perhaps it is this sort of context that fosters strong cultural awareness. Today we’ve been privileged to learn many things that can help us advance architecture in the future. Thank you very much joining us.
