I have been involved since the time of the design process, including with the building maintenance supervision, and now near-ly 30 years have passed. Despite our very different cultural backgrounds and customs, how do you think we managed to achieve smooth communication?Dhari Alshammary (Alshammary) From my point of view, there are four main factors: the clear and well-written maintenance manual that Nikken Sekkei provided; the presence of a skilled maintenance team; our hiring of the best possible maintenance contractor; and understanding and generosity on the part of management about the resources needed to keep the building in excellent running conditition.Abdullah AlGarni (AlGarni) Actually, maintenance of the building all goes back to the design stage. We know we have a design that takes into consideration all aspects of the building and that supports the efforts of the team engaged in maintenance. In that sense, we greatly appreciate the Nikken Sekkei design.Furukawa Thank you very much. Are there any specific parts or areas of the design that you especially like?AlGarni I would say that the facade is especially striking. When I first set foot in the first-floor entrance, I was amazed by the height of the ceiling and all the attractive decorative work there. The design forming a circle in the center into which sun-light enters is really ingenious—a beautiful concept.Alshammary I agree that the entire design reflects Islamic culture and suits our business as an Islamic-development institution. It is really well matched to our entire bank mandate.Furukawa Is this building well known to people in the vicinity or in the city of Jeddah?Alshammary Yes, the building has become a Jeddah landmark and a unique presence in the city.
