A new logo for the IsDB was created as part of the institution’s 2018 rebranding. The green in the logo represents the IsDB’s traditional identity, while the blue represents sustainability. The network of dots symbolizes partnership, the exchange of ideas, and innovation, while the image of the globe signifies openness to new partnership opportunities. Our architectural design has stood the test of time, putting forth a positive lent energy-saving performance— hardly seems to be a design conceived 30 years ago; it takes full account of the issues of sus-tainability that concern us so much today. What led you to that kind of thinking and design at the time?Furukawa Japan is a resource-poor country and relies on imports for energy, so energy-saving design has progressed considerably in our country. For us at Nikken Sekkei, where we have been developing energy-conserving designs for a long time, it just made sense to make that a theme, as we would have in Japan, and implement it for a building in your extreme-ly hot country. At the time, the concepts promoted by LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) had yet to be articulated, but ultimately our MEP members found out through simulations that the design would also be applicable to LEED certification.AlGarni With the recent trend toward decarbonization and SDGs, we were reminded once again about the high energy efficiency of this building and are now in the process of apply-ing for LEED certification. We have been proposed for LEED Gold and now the application for LEED certification is under-way with our sights on the Platinum level.Furukawa Finally I’d like to talk about our relationship in the future. Thirty years have passed since we handed the building over to you and I will be passing on my role to the next genera-tion. How do you see things unfolding in the years ahead.Alshammary First of all, we are very grateful to Nikken Sekkei. To tell you the truth, we don’t see Nikken Sekkei just as a ser-vice provider. We consider you a partner. So we are looking forward to engaging with you and asking you to participate in our future projects, and we hope that you will compete with other companies for involvement in our promising projects here and participate in projects not only for the IsDB but throughout Saudi Arabia as a whole. Master plans for large-scale urban development are underway for Jeddah, Riyadh, and all of Saudi Arabia, so we hope your activities will expand into participation in such projects. We have great expectations of Nikken Sekkei.Furukawa Thank you very much.example for the development of member nations and keeping in tune with modern branding concepts.13留めないことが多いと思います。しかしここでは、建物を清潔に保ち、建物の機能を最大限効率的な方法で維持管理しています。清潔で良好な状態を保てば、当然それが、働く人々にとって適切なオフィスというかたちで還元されると考えています。　私からも質問させてください。この建物は、30年前の設計とは思えないほど環境性能に優れ、サステナビリティに配慮されています。どうしてこのような考え方・デザインに辿り着いたのですか？古川 元々日本は資源の乏しい国で、エネルギー源は輸入に頼っているため、省エネルギー設計はすでに進化していました。それゆえ長期にわたってこの分野の技術を開発していた日建設計としては、この酷暑の国に日本国内同様の省エネルギー設計をテーマのひとつとして据え、導入しました。当時はLEED（Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design）のような概念はありませんでしたが、これが結果的にLEED認証にも通用することが、後日当社のMEPシミュレーションによって分かりました。アルガルニ 昨今の脱炭素化やSDGsの流れを受け、IsDBもこの建物の省エネルギー性能の高さにあらためて気付き、現在LEEDの認証手続きに着手しています。LEEDのゴールド認証を申請中で、おそらく取得できる見込みです。将来的には、プラチナ認証も目指したいと考えています。古川 それでは、最後に今後の私たちの関係についてお話したいと思います。この建物の引渡しから約30年が経ち、私の役割も次の世代に譲らなければなりません。それについては何かご意見がありますか。アルシャマリ まずは貴社に感謝を述べたいです。正直に申しますと、私たちは日建設計のことをサービス提供者としては見ておらず、パートナーとして捉えています。ですから、今後も力を貸していただくのを楽しみにしていますし、日建設計が競合他社と競って、私たちの有望なプロジェクト、つまり当行だけでなくサウジアラビア全土におけるプロジェクトに参加してくれることも待ち望んでいます。ジェッダで私たちIsDBが計画しているマスタープランもありますし、先述のとおり、IsDBだけでなく、ジェッダやリヤド、サウジアラビア全土で進められている大規模な都市開発プロジェクトにも活動を広げていってほしいと思っています。これが、私が日建設計に期待していることです。古川 ありがとうございました。IsDBは今年、1973年の創立から50周年を迎えます。2018年のリブランディングでは、新しいロゴが誕生しました。緑はIsDBの伝統的なアイデンティティを、青は他の国際機関でも採用されているサステナビリティを表しています。また、ドットの連結はパートナーシップ・心の交流・イノベーションを、地球儀は新しいパートナーシップの機会への開放を象徴しています。私たちが実現した建築デザインは、メンバー国の開発に良好な見本を提示し、新しい時代のブランドコンセプトにも呼応した、ロングライフ・デザインとなっています。
