The building is located in Riyadh’s King Abdullah Financial District (KAFD), a thriving new urban center of development. To ensure the building symbolizes global competitiveness, it required a time-less landmark quality, sustainability in construction, and sophisticated office functionality. Nikken Sekkei has been in charge of the building’s design management since win-ning the 2009 international competition.S=1:30,000 |500m141 : 南東からの鳥瞰。象徴的な星形のクラウン。2 : 周辺建築の多面体と調和しながら際立つシンプルな外観。大地を割って輝く光中東経済を牽引する施設として、「新しい時代を拓く」をコンセプトに「大地を割って輝く光、その瞬間の結晶」をイメージしました。低層部の四角形と頂部の五角形を曲面で結ぶ全階異なる特殊な形態は、設計当時リリースされ始めたBIMによる設計で、意匠・構造・設備の整合を図りつつ進めました。厳しい気候条件のなか、LEEDゴールド認証とともにデータセンターTIER Ⅳ認証を取得しており、高いサステナビリティと冗長性を確保しています。Like Light Breaking through the Earth Envisioning the building as a guiding force of the Middle Eastern economy, we developed an image of a shaft of light that seemed to emanate from the earth. Our concept was named “paving the way for a new era.” The shape of the build-ing is distinctive—warped planes connect the rectangular lower portion to the pentagonal top, and each floor is differ-ent from the others. Consistency in design, structure, and facilities was ensured through the use of then newly released BIM software. Despite the hot desert climate, we obtained LEED Gold certification and succeeded in establishing a Tier IV–certified data center, ensuring a high degree of both sus-tainability and redundancy.中東経済の導き星Beacon for the Economy of the Middle East
