We settled on a design that incorporates a broad canopy over the top floor and staggered balconies, enabling the building to provide its own shade from the intense sunlight that pours down from almost directly overhead. While biomimetic design was not our objective, the building’s shape turned out to resemble that of the date palm, a tree that thrives in sun-drenched Riyadh.S=1:85,000 |1km24美しい生活体験へようこそ最上階と低層部に設置したキャノピーは、アイコニックな特徴をこのタワーにもたらしています。と同時に、最上階に配置したルーフバルコニー付き住宅の快適性を保つために、最小の材料で最大の日陰をつくり出す、合理性にも根差したデザインとなっています。 外装は、強い日差しを遮りつつ他では見られないデザインを求めるクライアントの要望に対して、バルコニーをランダムに配して彫の深い外装をつくり出し、上からの日差しを受けて自らに影を落とす、機能性と特徴をあわせもったデザインを提案しました。日影シミュレーションを行いつつ、視覚的効果を確認しながら迅速にデザインを進めるために、BIMソフトウエアとコンピュータにより自動操作可能な三次元CADを併用したデジタル環境で設計を行いました。Welcome to a Beautiful Living ExperienceThe canopies covering the top of the tower and the podium make the tower instantly recognizable. But the design is root-ed in practicality, using minimal materials to maximize shade and maintain comfort in the top-floor units with roofed bal-conies. To satisfy the client’s wish for a one-of-a-kind building that nonetheless provides practical protection from the sun, we proposed a design that is both functional and distinctive, with the balconies staggered randomly for a deeply articulat-ed exterior.
