05シハーブ・アフマド・アル・ファヒーム Shihab Ahmed ALFAHEEM駐日アラブ首長国連邦大使 Ambassador of the United Arab Emirates to Japan日本とアラブ首長国連邦が外交関係樹立50周年という節目を迎えたことに、駐日アラブ首長国連邦大使として、そして一個人として、感謝の意を表します。エネルギー分野から始まった私たちの友情は、長年にわたり、科学技術、教育、インフラなどの分野へと広がり、豊かな実りをもたらし、ビジネスにおいても多くの有意義なつながりが生まれました。　こうしたなか、日建設計との30年間にわたる協業が成功していることに喜びを感じます。私たちの友好関係は、テクノロジー利用における「美しく良いもの」に対する共通認識に基づき、ほぼ自然発生的に育まれたと感じており、両国の戦略的協力関係とともに発展しつづけてきました。　この30年にわたる交友は、1992年に最初の共同プロジェクトであるドバイ商工会議所（p.26–27参照）のグランドオープンから始まります。それは、わが国のかつてない好景気の幕開けともなりました。この成功を皮切りに、大規模プロジェクトが多数実現されました。私たちにとって日建設計は、信頼できるパートナーであると同時に、中東地域全体の建築史の一部になることに身を捧げる、情熱的な専門家チームでした。ドバイのOne Za’abeelプロジェクト（p.18–19参照）は、このような努力の影響を示す好例です。シャープで幾何学的な線とキャンチレバーが印象的な建築は、まちのランドマークとなり玄関口となります。　このパートナーシップは、わが国の進展にとって極めて重要です。私たちのプロジェクトをより持続可能なものにするために、今後もより多くの協働を行いたいと考えています。As United Arab Emirates Ambassador to Japan, I would like to express my personal gratitude as our two countries observe the fiftieth year of diplomatic relations. Over the years, our friendship has proven to be a fertile one, having grown well beyond its start in the energy sector to include science and technology, education, infrastructure, and several other fields. These have, in turn, generated many rewarding business ties. laboration with Nikken Sekkei. This relationship seemed to develop almost spontane-ously from our mutual sense of what is beautiful and good in the use of technology, and it has continued to grow alongside our nations’ strategic interests. These thirty years began with the 1992 grand opening of our first project, the Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry (see pp. 26–27). It marked the begin-ning of our nation’s unprecedented economic boom. From that initial success, many large-scale projects have followed. In Nikken Sekkei, we found not only a trustworthy partner but a team of passionate professionals devoted to becoming part of the entire region’s architectural history. The One Za’abeel project (see pp. 18–19) in Dubai is a shining example of the impact of such efforts. With its sharp geometric lines and can-tilever bridge, it has become both a landmark and a gateway to the city. This partnership with Nikken Sekkei has been pivotal to the transformation we are seeing in the UAE. We are looking forward to more collaboration in the future to make our projects more sustainable.
