The design seeks to prioritize the visibility of two defining elements: the lush greenery—including the rows of zelkova trees that have been preserved since the school opened 58 years ago—and the 6,000-plus energetic students. Moving the lecture halls and laboratories to the upper floors and establishing the Hub on the ground floor allowed for the creation of an uninterrupted plaza-like space, open on all sides, under the large roof extension. The space is not partitioned, and the juxtaposition of various types of learning and study spaces along with a café, lounge, and administrative offices encourages overlapping uses and showcases a vibrant and motivational atmosphere. The Josai Hub serves as a crossroads through which students can access the various buildings on campus.
