Beneath this is a multifunc-tional public space that serves as a walkway and as a plaza for meeting, greeting and recreation, open to local residents and station users. Nikken Sekkei proposed an atrium that directly connects the station building’s fourth floor with the second floor underground subway transfer concourse, which serves some 360,000 people per day. Also planned was a “Station Core” to connect the circulation system to each level. The “Station Core” is bright with natural light in the daytime and presents an open view through the concourse. Symbolizing the integration of the rail station and the city, the space offers people a comfortable travel experience.24まちに開かれた駅東西立面にそれぞれ25本の庇をつなぎ合わせた約30mのキャンチレバーの大庇は、広州市を象徴する木綿花を表現しています。
