Establishing areas that do not require air-conditioning also saves energy across entire floors.Office occupancy levels fluctuate significant-ly between daytime and nighttime, and indi-viduals’ sensitivity to heat and cold can vary widely. Operation of equipment at standard settings therefore presents problems from the standpoint of both energy efficiency and comfort. Nikken Sekkei is exploring the principle of “unevenness” to achieve vari-In March 2021, Nikken Sekkei issued a climate emergency dec-laration, announcing the company’s goal of achieving carbon neutrality through work practices and urban and architectural design by 2050. Nikken Sekkei moved its Osaka Office to the Ginsen Bingomachi Building in May 2023 and is working together with the building owner to conduct demonstration experiments for decarbonizing the tenant offices.
