By introducing a variety of functions and green spaces that generate activity and improve the liveliness and attraction of the station and surroundings, the project seeks to create a place that will become the new face of the area. The stakeholders involved in the redevelopment̶local residents, the Urban Renaissance Agency (UR), and developers̶will collaborate to create a shared vision for the area’s future and promote integrated urban develop-ment by formulation of a district plan. This approach aims to enhance the vibrance of the area while preserving its unique attraction and characteristics. The sprawling Takashimadaira Housing Complex (Takashimadaira Danchi) in Tokyo’s Itabashi Ward, once dubbed the “mammoth housing complex of the East,” was built in the 1970s during Japan’s rapid economic growth period. Efforts are underway to reorganize and redevelop the complex and turn it into a leading model for large-scale suburban housing redevelop-ment both domestically and internationally. Nikken Group is contributing to the devel-opment of a high-level urban development plan, as part of comprehensive studies on urban design, business models, and “chain-reaction urban redevelopment.” Reorganization of Public-Use Facilities as a Catalyst for “Chain-Reaction” Urban Redevelopment
