The shade provided by tall trees was found to lower the surface temperature by approximately 15°C and the ambient temperature by about 5°C compared to areas without greenery. This suggests tall trees not only reduce surface and ambient temperatures but also contribute to mitigating the heat island effect. Forest data obtained through analysis of satellite images was used to visualize the current ecological status and expected ecological network after the completion of Grand Green Osaka in a before/after comparison. Grand Green Osaka is expected to increase the rate of forest cover by 12 percent, creating a network of habitats for surrounding flora and fauna. The absorption of air pollutants (SO2, NO2, O3) by trees was calculated along with effects on air purification. The results show that trees in Grand Green Osaka, particularly those located near major roads and other pollution sources, play a vital role in absorbing pollutants and contributing to creating a comfortable living environment in the surrounding areas.ノースパークにおける樹木の密度とNO2吸収量イメージImage of Tree Density and NO2 Absorption in North Park大気汚染物質Air pollutants道路|Roadうめきた公園|Umekita Parkノースパークにおける樹木のフィルター効果と空気浄化のイメージImage of Tree Filter Effect and Air Purification in North Park森林浴効果Forest bathing effects水景|WaterscapeNikken Sekkei has developed a tool called the “Greenery Gauge” for assessing the environmental value of green-ery, aiming to highlight its essential role. Five indices were established based on environmental benefits: reduction of greenhouse gases emissions, reduction of rainwater outflow, improvement of thermal environments, promotion of bio-diversity, and air purification by trees. The tool presents this value through data and visuals. The goal is to help create a society that benefits the global environment. More than 1,600 tall trees have been planted throughout the entire Grand Green Osaka development centering on Umekita Park, which covers 4.5 hectares. The greenery, shad-ing, planting, and water features work together to regulate the microclimate through evapotranspiration, creating cool spots in the city center. The park and surrounding private land jointly address environmental issues, such as reducing rainwa-ter runoff, sequestering CO2, and fostering biodiversity. The Greenery Gauge tool clearly highlights the contributions of Grand Green Osaka to the environment in visual form.20212027
