Utilizing Arc to promote sustainable building operationsOpening of PYNT, a co-creation space for employees and guests, at Nikken Sekkei’s Tokyo officeOsaka Office Relocation: Redesigning Workplaces – From a passive “PLACE” to proactive “PLAYs”Nikken Sekkei moved its Osaka office to the Ginsen Bingomachi Building (5-8F) in May 2023. This workplace redesign focused on enhancing communi-cation across all four floors under the concept of “PLAYs”, a play on the word, “workPLACE”, to facilitate connections, immersion, cutting-edge research, and creation. The workplace is also designed to encourage employees to prac-tice carbon neutrality actions through PLAY. With the redesign of our own office, Nikken Sekkei is engaged in proof-of-concept experiments to address the growing complexity and diversity of social issues and is fully utilizing this space to deliver new value to our clients and society.Development of “NIKKEN GREEN INITIATIVE” guidelines for landscaping in the green age1. Nikken Sekkei shared insights into the features and examples of applications of the Arc evaluation system, which has been used in over 1,000 buildings in Japan since it was first introduced two and a half years ago. Re-ports included actual examples of how Arc makes it possible to easily evaluate the operations in existing buildings, and how these results can be used to earn points under GRESB and acquire LEED certification.PYNT opened in April 2023 as a collaborative space for co-creation to ad-dress complex social issues through connections within and outside of Nikken Sekkei. Through the three key activities of exploring ideas, connecting with people, and creating a vision for the future, we aim to put ideas to practical use in society by bringing together individuals from diverse areas of expertise and with different perspectives. Currently, PYNT is being used to co-create and generate new ideas under such themes as the circular economy of build-ing materials, use of public spaces, commons-based approach to mobility, inclusive living, decentralized autonomous governance, and nature-positive development. As environmental challenges grow increasingly visible in recent years, Nik-ken Sekkei has put together a booklet outlining the approaches we will take as landscape designers in the future. Nikken Sekkei’s green initiatives are based on three pillars: (1) Vision for green cities, (2) Strategies for bringing nature back to cities, and (3) Evidence-based landscape planning and design. In the first pillar, we declare the importance of the vision of an ideal city, emphasizing the importance of restoring greenery while preserving and renewing social, economic, cultural, and urban functions. The second pillar categorizes approaches to how nature has been brought back to cities into four types and highlights leading projects. We have developed our own unique set of metrics to quantitatively evaluate and visualize the multifaceted effects of greenery from five environmental perspectives in eight select projects. Nikken Landscape aims to incorporate these metrics in the future and link them to evidence-based proposals highlighting environmental values.Announcement of demonstration results for decarbonizing officeshttps://www.nikken.co.jp/ja/news/press_release/2023_10_12_02.htmlWebsite link to the webinarhttps://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLS3A1rD82xVcsM7K5_ 442uw4w50RNNxOIWebpage introducing “PYNT”https://www.nikken.jp/ja/about/pynt.htmlINTERNAL & EXTERNAL COMMUNICATION OF COLLECTIVE INTELLIGENCE 3
