Tadawul Tower

King Abdullah Financial District (KAFD) was conceived as part of an effortto strengthen Saudi Arabia’s position as the financial capital of the MiddleEast. Modern and active, this large-scale masterplan is set to become amajor center of business where big investment promotion and entrepreneurship gather, attracted to the allure of the global stage. The Stock Exchange, from which Tadawul Tower borrows its name, createsa visual dialogue with the neighboring high-rise buildings in the FinancialPlaza, each of which was designed by a renowned architectural firm. The Plaza, itself a striking element amidst the ensemble, serves toconnect them all. This unique composition of five imposing vertical spacesforms the conceptual “crown” of Riyadh.Specific site constraints determined the Tower’s tight boundaries. The design manipulates façade height and orientation, allowing the building’s summit to “morph” into a star shape. This accommodates the central atrium for its offices, and creates a brightly illuminated, sleek, dynamic, iconic structure that will stand the test of time. The facility is divided into two main portions, in accordance with the spatialcomposition and height of the complex. The Stock Exchange comprises avertical tower and a horizontal podium, its multifaceted façade matchingthe spirit of its district. A data center, offices, educational, information- andinfrastructure-related facilities populate the interior, affording tenants asuperior work environment. The upper floors of the Tower host the StockExchange itself, and feature breathtaking views of the city. The spacious, rentable lower floors are highly adaptable, thanks to the building’s compactstructural core and flexible planning solution. The Tower’s design calls for a reduced first floor area, which graduallyexpands towards the top. This was done in order to facilitate aestheticharmony with the other towers. The concept of a five-pointed star plan onthe uppermost floors was born of this inspiration. Tadawul Tower may bethought of as real engineering “art”. Advanced designs based on cutting edge technology were applied both externally and internally, and all solutions were considered from the standpoint of maximizing energy efficiency, functionality and comfort for the building’s users. The same level of quality was used in illuminating the Tower, which becomes a spectacular sunset-inspired digital canvas at night. Color changes against the background are repeated on the façade with the help of special sensors that ensure efficient energy distribution while limiting CO2 emissions.
