PYNT
ABOUT
A co-creation platform for generating new options for the future of the city
PYNT is a co-creation platform that connects guests with an array of expertise and issue awareness with experts in architecture and urbanism for the purpose of generating new options for the future of the city.
PURPOSE
The brand vision of Nikken Sekkei, which operates PYNT, includes "pioneering the cutting edge of social and environmental design.” In light of this vision, Nikken undertakes projects from medium- to long-term perspectives, looking several years to decades into the future, and from vantage points beyond architecture to social environments and the lives of people and the systems surrounding them not visible to the untrained eye.
In real terms, this vision seeks to redefine the unconsciously shared common interests of people, such as pleasant parks, low-cost, safe transportation, efficient energy, easily accessible walking paths, and inclusive local communities, etc. By doing so, existing projects and systems can be re-imagined in ways that allow many people to be involved.
On the other hand, such complex societal issues cannot be solved by a single person, organization, or company. PYNT was launched in order to create such a future, by utilizing our experience, and by involving many people beyond the expertise of architecture and urbanism. We wish to create a better future by redesigning existing projects and systems by rethinking the public "commons” that all of us share.

PYNT is currently working on 10 themes*, or "FUTURE COLLECTIVES" – with communities for each category interested in creating "a desired future." Its three pillars of activities include: individual projects, public opinion formation, and rule-making, through which we are working to create medium- to long-term change.

The Three PYNT Functions
1."Connecting" issues, ideas, and fields of expertise
PYNT's greatest strength is that it creates a place for people with different kinds of expertise and common awareness to meet and discuss pertinent issues. Through miscellaneous events, exhibitions, and idea pitches, etc., opportunities are created to find like-minded colleagues who can take on roles that may be lacking.
2.Raising issue resolution and envisioning the future
We support projects by nurturing ideas through three Nikken Group strengths: research on boosting (issue) resolution through interviews & simulations, crafting realistic, applicable visions of the future, and generating hypotheses for implementation processes.
3."Social proof" of projects for mid- to long-term initiatives
In order to test ideas in the real world, we support matching projects to demonstration sites, as a step toward creating new businesses or mechanisms. The development of tools for idea implementation, and business models for making projects viable are also under consideration.
