Nikken Sekkei talks about the benefits of vertical communities at the annual RBC Conference in Moscow

On the 25th of April, 2018, the annual RBC Conference was held in Moscow under the topic: Skyscrapers of Russia. This year’s lecturers were challenged to discuss new trends and opportunities. How to build a skyscraper in Russia’s climate conditions and how to manage it? What are the features of the architecture of high-rise construction? What does the market offer high-rise real estate in Moscow and the surrounding regions today? The answers were given in the framework of the practical conference of RBC – to experts and potential buyers.

Nikken’s Officer, Mr. Fadi Jabri showed the benefits of shifting from horizontal to vertical communities and presented the company’s most prominent High-Rise projects in Tokyo, Dubai and Mumbai. Mr. Jabri’s presentation focused on the possibility of creating different worlds under the same roof. From businesses to leisure areas, residential floors, and public spaces, high-rise developments are a valuable contribution to cities and communities, turning dismissed or neglected zones into new profitable centres.

The selected projects showcased included: Dubai’s One Zaabel, Mumbai’s Sarova Master Plan, and Tokyo’s Midtown and Hinokizaka Tower.

One Zaabel is the new landmark in Dubai; a mixed-use development with its dramatic extending steel sky-bridge suspended 100 metres above the ground, The Linx.

Sarova Master Plan is a mixed-use development in the dense metropolitan city of Mumbai. As a testament against the conventional trend of gated communities, Sarova is based on an open public realm, an inclusive development linked with the surrounding communities and integrated with the public transportation.

Tokyo Midtown is a fine example of dialoguing architecture where an arrangement of open spaces connects with the surroundings. Tokyo Midtown Towers form a centrepiece of development, around which a skirt of commercial buildings link to additional towers and public spaces. Hinokizaka Tower is part of the Tokyo Midtown mixed-use development and is the house of the Ritz-Carlton Hotel.
