Nikken Sekkei showcases regional projects and next-gen skyscraper prototype at Cityscape Global 2024

On Nov. 11-14, Nikken Sekkei showcased its regional projects and next generation sustainable skyscraper prototype in Cityscape Global, the Middle East’s leading real estate exhibition.

Held in Riyadh under the theme "The Future of Living", Cityscape Global aims to expand local and international investment opportunities in Saudi Arabia's rapidly evolving real estate sector.

On show were projects that demonstrate the company’s presence and history in the Kingdom, from the iconic Islamic Development Bank in Jeddah completed over three decades ago, to the latest award-winning projects such as Tadawul Tower in KAFD. In addition, several of UAE’s progressive urban development projects were presented, including One Za’abeel and a collection of waterfront residences, that offer a glimpse into the new wave of living that is coming to the region.

“We are currently working to propose a new model for communities in Saudi Arabia, especially for the young Saudis who are becoming more exposed to international trends,” said Dr. Fadi Jabri, CEO of Nikken Sekkei Dubai (NIKKEN SEKKEI FZ-LLC). “Our designs present character and identity, seamlessly connect the indoor and outdoor, and introduce plenty of light and vistas that take advantage of the surrounding natural beauty. Special importance is placed on the integration of common spaces with the landscape design, for an elevated experience inspired by the Japanese shakkei (borrowed scenery).”

Nikken Sekkei also provided insight into the future of skyscraper design, with new initiatives like the Next-Generation Skyscraper Prototype. Various features such as the steel-wood hybrid structure drawing inspiration from nature, and an innovative transport system using a combination of express elevators and escalators potentially reduces whole life carbon by up to 40%.

Dr. Jabri said, “Saudi Arabia and other countries around the globe are investing heavily in reducing carbon emissions to achieve a carbon neutral society, and this prototype contains various essential ideas that can be combined and adapted to fit the conditions of each region. We look forward to taking this prototype to the next level and implementing our design solutions across the world.”

Nikken Sekkei was joined on the exhibition floor by Australian architectural design firm Buchan, with whom it has had a business alliance since 2015.
