PRESS RELEASE

Agreement signed at the Kranoyarsk Economic Forum in Russia with the mayor of Kranoyarsk, developer Monolitholding, and Siberian Federal University for ongoing provision of services related to the Krasnoyarsk smart city project

On February 26, 2015, Nikken Sekkei signed an agreement with Mayor Akbulatov of Krasnoyarsk, Russia, major Russian developer Monolitholding, and Siberian Federal University to provide services related to the Krasnoyarsk smart city project. Facing the repercussions of environmental pollution caused by energy production that is dependant on oil and the recent fall in oil prices, “eco-friendly urban development” that overcomes dependence on natural resources is a major challenge that Russia is now working to address as a state.

Since 2012, Nikken Sekkei, along with Nikken Sekkei Research Institute (NSRI), has been drawing up city plans for the construction of Krasnoyarsk’s smart city. This time’s agreement concerns the implementation of studies to give more concrete form to the existing master plan for the city. Based on the agreement, studies will be conducted and plan proposals will be made in collaboration with Siberian Federal University, and with the inclusion of Krasnoyarsk city in this project, it is gaining much attention as an industry-academia-government collaboration.

As proof of this development, the new agreement was signed at the Krasnoyarsk Economic Forum, hosted by the Russian Federal government. At the forum, Shinji Yamamura, principal consultant at NSRI, also gave a presentation on smart cities.
