Ariake Gymnastics Centre Wins Gold Award at the 2022 ARCASIA Architecture Awards

(Ulaanbaatar) The Ariake Gymnastics Centre, designed and supervised by Nikken Sekkei Ltd., has won the Gold Award in the B-5 Special Buildings category of the “2022 ARCASIA Architecture Awards,” organized by the Architects’ Council of Asia (ARCASIA).

Nikken Sekkei (basic design, supervision of detailed design, and construction supervision) and Shimizu Corporation (detailed design and construction) collaborated with the Tokyo Organizing Committee for the Olympic and Paralympic Games on the design.The winners were announced at the ARCASIA Annual Conference, held under the theme “The Future of Sustainable Urban Development” (September 4–9, Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia).

Ariake Gymnastics Centre Completed in 2019 as a venue for international sporting events and subsequent gatherings, the facility has attracted significant attention for its sustainability, abundant use of wood and natural materials, and iconic exterior.

ARCASIA, based in Singapore, recognizes exemplary architectural projects across Asian countries. The ARCASIA Awards aim to highlight the positive impact that outstanding architecture has on the human environment and to promote the advancement of architecture in harmony with cultural values, national identity, and the preservation of the natural environment in developing countries across Asia.
