Ariake Gymnastics Centre Wins Gold Prize at
ARCASIA Awards for Architecture 2022

(ULAANBATAAR) -- Ariake Gymnastics Centre, for which Nikken Sekkei performed design and supervision, won the Gold Prize in the B-5 Specialized Building category at the 2022 Architects Regional Council Asia’s (ARCASIA) Awards for Architecture.

Nikken Sekkei (concept design, development design supervision and site supervision) and Shimizu Corporation (development design and construction) worked in cooperation with the developer, The Tokyo Organising Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games. ARCASIA made the announcement at its annual conference, held September 4-9 in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia under the theme, “The Future of Sustainable Urban Development.”

Completed in 2019 as a venue for hosting international athletic competitions and subsequent ongoing events, Ariake Gymnastics Centre has drawn considerable attention for its sustainability, extensive use of timber and other natural materials, and for its iconic appearance.

Singapore-based ARCASIA acknowledges exemplary architectural works in Asian countries. Its awards are intended to demonstrate the positive influence of good architecture on the human environment, and to promote harmony between architectural developments and cultural values, national identity, and sustenance the natural environment of developing Asian countries.
