Takuya Oba

Woodscape Architect. Born in 1982 in Kitakyushu City, Fukuoka Prefecture. After graduating from the Department of Architecture at Fukuoka University and completing a graduate program in architecture at Tokyo Institute of Technology, he joined Nikken Sekkei.
With the manifesto “Architecture that becomes more beneficial to life the more it is built,” he is leading the movement toward the use of wood in architecture and urban design. He is currently promoting the “Tsunagi-ki” project, which seeks to discover a new relationship between forests and cities. Ariake Gymnastics Centre He has designed timber-frame buildings such as Athletes’ Village Plaza and Showa Gakuin Elementary School, and has received numerous awards, including the Architectural Institute of Japan’s New Architect Award, selection for the SD Review, and the Teiji Suzuki Award. His work has been featured in numerous media outlets, including TV Tokyo’s “Future City Research Institute,” BS TBS’s “Natsumi Uga’s Tell Me About That!,” and TBS Radio’s “ACTION.”
