ULTRA PUBLIC PROJECT (*1), in which our company participates, is involved in planning, production, and management, 'PARK PACK by ULTRA PUBLIC PROJECT,' which received the 'Experimental Design Category' award at the 'Sotonova Award 2018' (*2), hosted by the public space-specialized web magazine Sotonova.
The mobile park "PARK PACK" was proposed as part of the event content after receiving an offer from the Tokyo Midtown, which organizes the design event "Tokyo Midtown DESIGN TOUCH 2018" (October 19, 2018 ~ November 4, 2018), to create a "Park of the Future."
With various tools included in the "PARK PACK," the park can transform into a playground for the future, a live stage, a museum, and a variety of activities and programs.
"PARK PACK" is an experimental initiative that presents multiple possibilities for the future of parks.

Nikken Sekkei was primarily responsible for IoT planning, activity design, and modular design. The firm undertook an experiment in operating public spaces designed to foster a variety of activities.
In this competition, entries were judged based on five criteria—empathy, originality,Design, Activity, and Sustainability) that embody Sotonoba’s concept of “Make the outdoors a place to belong—a great spot!” and “PARK PACK by ULTRA PUBLIC PROJECT” was successfully selected as a winner.

(*1) About ULTRA PUBLIC PROJECT: A unit founded by members of three companies—Rhizomatiks Architecture, TYO, and Dentsu Live. Starting with Tokyo Midtown DESIGN TOUCH 2018, Nikken Sekkei and Propeller & Company have joined the group.
Under the banner of “We are the city,” the group approaches urban development not from the perspective of physical infrastructure but from a variety of software-based, people-centered viewpoints, using this approach to formulate and propose urban development initiatives.

(*2) About the Sotonoba Award: An award program organized by the Sotonoba General Incorporated Association—Japan’s first initiative dedicated to recognizing all types of outdoor spaces.As the number of cases in which Japan’s outdoor and public spaces are being utilized in enriching and enjoyable ways continues to grow, the awards recognize examples that are worthy of discussion, have achieved significant results, or show promise for future development.
For this second edition of the awards, a total of 19 “Soto” spaces (case studies) were submitted. The winning entries were selected following a preliminary screening (closed to the public) and a public final judging session held on January 12.
