"W350 Plan," a project in which our company is participating, received the Special Jury Prize at the "MIPIM Awards 2020," which honors outstanding real estate developments worldwide.
"W350 Plan" is a research and technology development initiative aimed at realizing a 350-meter-tall wooden skyscraper by 2041, the year Sumitomo Forestry Co., Ltd. celebrates its 350th anniversary.Aiming to promote the use of wood in high-rise buildings and transform cities into “environmental wood-based cities” that resemble forests, this project plans to contribute to people, society, and the global environment through future technologies such as construction methods, environmentally conscious technologies, and the development of building materials and timber resources. Sumitomo Forestry Co., Ltd. is responsible for the conceptual planning and wood engineering, while Nikken Sekkei Ltd. is in charge of the architectural and structural design of the iconic 350-meter wooden building.
The “MIPIM AWARDS” have been held since 1991 and celebrated their 30th anniversary this year.The MIPIM event, typically held in March in Cannes, southern France, was canceled due to the spread of COVID-19. Instead of “MIPIM 2020,” the Jury Special Prize and the Best in Category awards were announced on September 15 (local time) at PREW* in Paris. From a total of 228 entries, 43 finalists were selected across all 11 categories. The Jury Special Prize was selected based on the evaluations of the 11-member jury, while the Best in Category awards were determined by a combination of the jury’s evaluations and online voting by registered participants of MIPIM 2020 and PREW.Please visit the following URL to view the other winning projects.
