The centerpiece of Saudi Arabia’s new King Abdullah Financial District (KAFD), the 200-meter Tadawul Tower will host the Saudi Stock Exchange, major banks and financial institutions, and consolidate the nation’s position as the financial capital of the Middle East well into the future. The building’s angular shape creates a distinguished, iconic presence, and embodies Nikken’s policy of integrating technology, sustainability, environmental friendliness and elegance.

Minimal energy use is a signature achievement of the project. Overall, energy consumption is estimated at more than 20% less than the industry baseline, while potable water consumption is more than 60% lower than the average. The project has also received LEED-CS GOLD certification

Okinawa Cellular Forest Building employs an innovative double skin facade, autonomously controlled louvers and a desiccant air conditioning system that work together in close coordination. The system reduces the air conditioning load by blocking solar radiation and then converts the light into heat, which is used for the dehumidification process. Maintenance-free and highly durable, the system has been chosen as a "Sustainable Building Leading Business" and is sponsored by the Japanese government to promote sustainable designs in high-temperature regions.

Both Tadawul Tower and Okinawa Cellular Forest Building will now compete for the additional status of "Overall Category Winner", as well as for the audience award in their respective categories.

The CTBUH Awards Program recognizes projects and individuals that have made extraordinary contributions to the advancement of tall buildings and the urban environment, and that achieve sustainability at the highest and broadest level. Winning projects will be awarded at the 2023 Tall + Urban Innovation Conference in Singapore on 16-18 October at the Marina Bay Sands Convention Center.
