New Spotify Camp Nou Project Wins the 2023 International Architecture Award

The new Spotify Camp Nou, designed by Nikken Sekkei in collaboration with b720 Arquitectos and IDOM, has been selected as one of the winning projects of the International Architecture Award (IAA) 2023.Organized by the Chicago Athenaeum Museum of Architecture and Design and the European Center for Architecture, Art, Design, and Urban Studies, this historic international award—now in its 20th edition—is one of the most prestigious awards recognizing outstanding projects. In 2023, there were over 750 entries from around the world.
This project is based on the renovation proposal that Nikken Sekkei and Pascual-Audio Arquitectes won in a competition in 2016. In addition to preserving the design essence of the original plan, the project involves a major renovation intended to strengthen the connection with the architecture of the “FC Barcelona.”Another distinctive feature is a design that reflects the local climate and culture, creating an open space that seeks to foster a connection with the city.

The awards ceremony was held on September 15 at the Acropolis in Greece. Representing Nikken Sekkei were Masakazu Kimura (Senior Executive Officer, Head of Global Business Department) and Daisuke Ibanono (Construction Administration Department, Associate).In addition, an exhibition of the award-winning projects titled “The City and the World” is being held at Contemporary Space Athens from September 8 through October 1.
