Two projects on which Nikken Sekkei worked as a design partner have won awards at the International Architecture Award (IAA) 2024. The IAA is a long-standing international award organized by the Chicago Athenaeum Museum of Architecture and Design and the European Center for Architecture, Art, Design, and Urban Studies, and is one of the most prestigious awards recognizing outstanding projects.

Suvarnabhumi International Airport Terminal 2

Winner / Bridges and Infrastructure Architecture Category
This is Terminal 2 of an international airport located near Bangkok, the capital of Thailand. The approximately 348,000-square-meter space was designed using two types of grids—36-meter-square and 18-meter-square—centered around columns modeled after the giant trees of the Thai jungle.Furthermore, a realistic tropical forest has been recreated in one corner of the interior, making this the world’s first airport to conduct experiments on tropical ecological systems in an artificial environment.
