Background to the Publication of the “Future Activity Report”
Within our firm, which specializes in architectural design and supervision as well as urban design, NAD is a department responsible for new areas of practice, focusing on “Activity Design” to enrich users’ active engagement.Working with clients facing diverse challenges—such as branding and workstyle issues—we leverage the “design thinking” cultivated through architectural design to engage in cross-disciplinary activities that transcend the traditional framework of an architectural firm. This encompasses everything from research and analysis, strategy formulation, and requirements definition in the early project stages, through concept development, all the way to the post-completion operational phase.
Society has changed rapidly due to the spread of COVID-19, creating a need for new environments that adapt to these changes. Since the state of emergency was declared last April, NAD members have minimized in-person contact and spent more time at home (Private). To make the most of this time, we decided to re-examine the future of society and new forms of activity.Drawing on our experiences during the COVID-19 pandemic, we sought to predict future changes in lifestyle and develop strategies to transform those changes into attractive and fulfilling lives. To this end, each member selected a theme and conducted research and analysis. The result of this effort is the “Future Activity Report.”
