Merger by Nikken Sekkei, Ltd. into Hokkaido Nikken Sekkei, Ltd. and Nikken Sekkei Civil, Ltd.
PRESS RELEASE
2022.02.15
Nikken Sekkei Ltd. (Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo; Representative Director: President and CEO: Atsushi Omatsu; hereinafter “Nikken Sekkei”), which engages in architectural design and supervision, urban design, and related research, planning, and consulting services, will, effective April 1, 2022, merge with Hokkaido Nikken Sekkei Co., Ltd. (Chuo-ku, Sapporo; Representative Director: President and CEO:Katsumi Kubota; hereinafter “Hokkaido Nikken Sekkei”) and Nikken Sekkei Civil Co., Ltd. (Chuo-ku, Osaka; Representative Director: Koji Okada; hereinafter “Nikken Sekkei Civil”) effective April 1, 2022, with Nikken Sekkei serving as the surviving company.
Hokkaido Nikken Sekkei was established in 1956 and has cultivated design expertise for snowy and cold regions while providing design and supervision services deeply rooted in the local community. Nikken Sekkei Civil, meanwhile, was spun off from Nikken Sekkei in 2001 and has since honed its infrastructure-related technologies, such as civil engineering design and geotechnical surveys.
Although Nikken Sekkei and these two companies have collaborated on numerous projects to date, we have determined that a simpler organizational structure is desirable in order to respond swiftly to diversifying social challenges.
Furthermore, following the merger, Nikken Sekkei will open a Hokkaido office in Sapporo, where Hokkaido Nikken Sekkei is currently headquartered.

Comment from Atsushi Omatsu, Representative Director of President and CEO, Regarding the Recent Organizational Restructuring
We believe that solving today’s increasingly complex and sophisticated social issues will require collaboration and partnerships with other companies across various boundaries. In doing so, it is crucial to allocate the Nikken Group’s resources appropriately and smoothly, and coordination with Group companies must not hinder this process.
We expect that this merger will accelerate decision-making within the Nikken Group and promote diverse and flexible collaboration with external partners. By advancing this open-platform approach to address social challenges, we aim to provide solutions that transcend industry boundaries.
