Three Companies Launch Efforts to Explore Concrete Measures and a Collaborative Framework to Contribute to the Development of Hakone as a Sustainable Tourism Destination
Odakyu Electric Railway Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Shinjuku Ward, Tokyo; Director: President and CEO: Koji Hoshino), Nikken Sekkei Ltd. (Headquarters: Chiyoda Ward, Tokyo; Representative Director: President and CEO: Atsushi Omatsu), and Pacific Consultants Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Chiyoda Ward, Tokyo; Representative Director: President and CEO:Tomoyuki Shigenaga) are pleased to announce that on Friday, August 5, 2022, they signed a “Memorandum of Understanding Regarding Collaboration Among the Three Companies to Realize Environmentally Advanced Tourism and a Decarbonized Society in the Hakone Area.”
Amid growing calls for the realization of a sustainable society—including decarbonization, which has become a pressing social imperative in recent years, as well as the circular economy and the utilization of natural capital—awareness of environmental impact and sustainability is also increasing within the tourism sector.
The three companies have agreed to collaborate in the Hakone area—one of Japan’s leading tourist destinations—by combining their respective insights and expertise to address new societal challenges, such as the realization of sustainable tourism and a decarbonized society. They are now launching efforts to explore concrete measures and practical implementation, as well as to build relationships with co-creation partners both within and outside the area.
Furthermore, as outlined below, all three companies have incorporated a regional value perspective into their respective strategies. As partners committed to creating regional value, we have been exploring ways to collaborate in order to contribute to the realization of “a society where diverse regional stakeholders can thrive” and “a society that enables sustainable and prosperous lives” in the Hakone area.
Moving forward, through initiatives that leverage the diverse attractions of this area, we will work to create regional value while supporting the efforts of local stakeholders (residents, businesses, government agencies, etc.).
[Odakyu Electric Railway Co., Ltd.]
Guided by three core management principles—"Society and Community," "Economy," and "Environment"—we aim to be a regional value-creating company that grows alongside the communities along our railway lines and in the regions where we operate, promoting initiatives that leverage the Odakyu Group’s diverse assets and expertise.
[Nikken Sekkei Ltd.]
As a professional services firm engaged in architectural design and supervision, urban design, and related research, planning, and consulting services, we are promoting initiatives aimed at creating value through “Social and Environmental Design,” which seeks to address social challenges.
[Pacific Consultants Co., Ltd.]
Drawing on a broad range of expertise in social infrastructure, we are working with stakeholders to realize a “decarbonized society” and a “sustainable society” through a virtuous cycle of environmental and economic benefits.
