The community collaboration event “JINNAN MARKET” is returning this fall as a special edition—the largest yet!
As the designated manager of Kitatani Park—the site of Tokyo’s first Park-PFI (Public-Private Partnership for Park Management) project in Shibuya Ward—Nikken Sekkei has been operating the park since its reopening on April 1, 2021, we have been working to revitalize the Jinnan area by incorporating feedback from the community, centered around Kitatani Park. This has included initiatives such as the community collaboration event “JINNAN MARKET” and “YOUR PARK,” a program that solicits ideas for activities at Kitatani Park via QR codes installed in the park.In particular, “JINNAN MARKET” has been held regularly, and as connections with stakeholders both within and outside the community have grown, it has recently expanded into an event attracting as many as 4,000 visitors per day. Therefore, this fall, we will further expand the number of vendor boothsand extend the event area to the streets outside the park. Under the theme “You Set the Park Free,” we will host “JINNAN MARKET – Autumn Special –” on the largest scale to date, utilizing the areas surrounding Kitadani Park to bring to life the ideas we’ve gathered through “YOUR PARK.”
The highlight of this event is the “‘What Kind of Park Do You Want to Create?’ Workshop,” where visitors can draw what they’d like to do at Chatan Park on panels hung at a special gate, helping to bring color to the park. In addition, we’ve prepared a wide variety of content across seven genres: fashion, cinema, food, music, art, fitness, and tech.In addition to the market events held in the past, we’ve decided to implement new features based on the actual feedback gathered through “YOUR PARK”—such as a runway show where participants can upcycle clothing on the spot and walk the runway, an outdoor cinema using the walls of buildings adjacent to the park, and food stands specializing in ethical and sustainable options.
We hope you’ll enjoy this new community-driven cultural event, launching from the Jinnan area—a hub of fashion and music that has long been a birthplace of various trends and cultures.

About YOUR PARK
YOUR PARK is a system developed by Nikken Sekkei that connects public space managers with “people who want to use public spaces.”Due to the establishment of the Park-PFI system and the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, the utilization of public spaces has garnered attention nationwide in recent years. However, for those who wish to use these spaces, challenges remain, such as unclear rental procedures and rules. To address this, we have planned and developed a system that promotes the use of public spaces by installing QR codes in parks, allowing users to share ideas for utilization and requests regarding the park with park administrators, while also visualizing what the space would look like when used through AR (augmented reality).Since YOUR PARK can be installed relatively easily, it is scalable and aims to contribute to the revitalization of various public spaces.
Statement: “You set the park free.”

About Chatan Park
Kitadani Park, Shibuya Ward’s first Park-PFI park, is a new kind of park that fosters interaction and serves as a hub for cultural expression—featuring “a place to find peace,” “a relaxing café,” and “lively events.”
It is a place where people can express their thoughts and individuality, much like painting on a blank canvas. We aim to create a park that transcends the traditional boundaries of a park and pioneers a new era where fresh culture is born.
